Patriot Software payroll processing does everything I need at a reasonable price

Pros

I manage one part-time employee and run payroll twice a month. The fees for payroll processing from my previous provider tripled after my first year, prompting me to search for alternatives. That is when I came across Patriot Software. They offer online chat support during weekdays, and I started asking about their services. I was instantly impressed with the level of support they provided , every question I asked, and I asked quite a few, was addressed immediately, politely, and accurately. This led me to make the switch to Patriot. The cost of payroll processing is now about 25% of what I used to pay, and the service itself is outstanding. Setting it up requires some time and effort, but whenever I had a question, it was promptly answered.

Cons

I honestly have no cons. After working with them for the past two months, I have nothing but admiration for the entire payroll process they have in place.

They manage all submissions at both the federal and state levels, so there is nothing I need to file on my end, which makes things much more convenient.

Cons

It can be quite difficult to identify the correct report to generate, given that they are often labeled with brief two-word names. I sometimes wonder whether it is a report, a tax filing, or how to configure it correctly. For e.g, our annual audit for workers' compensation insurance requires us to go through and compare the quarterly submissions from the past two years. This means we have to make sure all the numbers match up correctly over that long period of time. On top of that, creating the exact report we need for this process can be quite challenging, as it is not always straightforward to figure out which report is the right one or how to generate it accurately. This whole process can end up feeling rather complicated and time-consuming because of these factors.

Pros

I find that the reports generated by Patriot look clearer and more professional compared to what I received from Paychex.

Cons

There are no definitive deadlines provided for my payroll schedule, and I would admire seeing a clear "due date" displayed on my dashboard for when payroll needs to be completed, along with a "payroll accepted" notification. I am often left uncertain as to whether everything has been processed accurately.

Patriot Payroll is very simple to manage, particularly since I only deal with salaried employees who do not receive overtime. I pay one employee semi-monthly and another monthly, and once I have set them up, the system takes care of the rest.

I would find it helpful to have a reminder to set up payroll, as I once missed setting it up by mistake. A reminder system of some kind would be a great addition.
